CN - RA (12" vinyl)

More action from the Weme label here with an EP from CN (aka EOD), a man making waves in the electronic scene with his Detroit influenced cuts. Apparently he’s recently been ‘singled out’ by Rephlex...whatever that means. Not hard to see why mind you as this is total Rephlex fodder.
Produced old school style (well not that old school I guess) with hardware as opposed to slavish laptop plug-ins, ‘RA’ has the feel of a mid ‘90s electronic record and sounds very much like a certain Ceephax Acid Crew.

These tracks are really beautiful, there’s no doubt about that. Those crisp 606 snares, the earthy bass tone, the super light synth touches that owe as much to classic house as they do to LA future-funk - it’s all here. The melodies are pure cosmic disco processed through maniacal mid-’90s hardware with massive nods to our main man Ed DMX Krew, Drexciya and Juan Atkins in Model 500 mode. So, we’re definitely in super familiar territory but CN is really fucking good at it so it’s totally excusable. Amazing EP.
