Cheatahs - Coared EP (12" vinyl)

This 12” from London’s Cheatahs (featuring a Weird Dream and a Male Bonding) has four songs in roughly 13 minutes, which kind of makes me question why it needed twelve whole inches to house it, but when you drop the needle there’s four tracks of sugary slacker pop which simply ooze nostalgic charm and takes you right back to the days when it was totally normal to put out indie rock EPs on big vinyl. These guys specialise in the sort of fuzzed out indie jangle which was the NME’s bread and butter back in the early ‘90s - JAMC-style super-melodic fuzz, shoegazey tunes with bright, summery slacker harmonies.
Closer ‘Froshed’ amps things up into Dinosaur Jr territory and is the ballsiest and my favourite of these four cuts but they’re all quality tunes with excellent ‘90s-esque production. Of course it’s just a rehash of themes which have been covered pretty thoroughly already but it’s mega likable and if you’re into that slacker indie sound then this should really push your buttons.
