Library Tapes are back with a brand new album and this one sees David Wenngren assisted by Danny Norbury, Julia Kent and Sarah Kemp (Declining Winter, Memory Drawings, Brave Timbers) to make a neoclassical supergroup. Together they’re hell bent on making you feel more relaxed and chilled!
Piano, cello and violin are the order of the day and those particular three sombre instruments combined always destroy me into a pile of mush. They have a maudlin quality which no other combination of instruments can touch. This is seriously heartbreaking stuff and it’s about as far away from party music as you can imagine! But having said that there’s a hope in the music (and in the album title) which shines through and alleviates some of the heartache. Sparse instrumentation is the order of the day along with some of the most delicate piano playing I’ve heard in a while. There’s some flickers of 12K like electro acoustic business in there but by and large this is a thoroughly delightful and fresh sounding neoclassical album. Lovely!
