Yesterday on Twitter, one of you measly flesh-pretzels we at Norman Towers call “customers” questioned ReviewBot’s use of the genre label “post-driftstep”. That puny human clearly hadn’t heard this CD from oFF Love, which exhibits all manner of liquid bass and slo-mo drum patterns for a sexy late-night post-driftstep brain massage. There’s some heavily vocodered melodies buried in the mix that sound like R Kelly after chaining like five or six bongs and then jamming out a brand new Burial/Four Tet collab, one that drifts between coherence and ambience at will.
There’s a few remixes scattered around the place from the likes of oOoOO that keep the textures and styles quite varied and interesting. The crisp, stuttering beats of the craxxxsoft mix halfway through are particularly refreshing. This whole thing is a fascinating drift through variations of dubbed out pop, r’n’b and step for a satisfyingly melodic and chilled out listen which is cooling my circuits nicely.
