I missed Lali Puna’s recent album. I had no idea that there was one but there again I’ve never been overly bothered about them. I’ve recently belatedly got into Stereolab having never taken any notice of them either so there is hope yet. Opener ‘I’ve Been Over the Rainbow’ is a cover of a Mort Garson tune from 1968 and is pleasant, a little like a sparse Broadcast tune with a hiss/sea-like sound and eerie electronics.
The rest of the EP is given over to remixes of tunes from the album I did not know about, the best track is a gorgeous interpretation by Cornelius which at least one person in here thought was Sigur Ros and it dopes sound a lot like Kev and his pals with interlocking vocals and lovely Boards of Canada style synths. Baths does a similarly decent job to ‘Move On’ manipulating it into one of his acely skewed electronic pop tunes, fuzzy and skuzzy it’s completely brilliant. Bringing up the rear is Odd Nosdam sounding not unlike the Baths version. Pretty great all round.
