Four Tet has a new 12” already! Already! Wasn’t the last one out like a week ago or something? Who does he think he is, Sir Richard Bishop? Anyway I wasn’t too sold on the last one compared to the one that preceded it but he does keep switching things up so even now I’m never confident of what to expect from the boy Hebden. On the lead track here he seems to be going back to his roots a little with some head nodding bedroomy twinkletronica with playful beatmaking and simple chiming melodies. It just made Phil go, “This sounds just like Four Tet!” He’s a perceptive man sometimes.
Flip it and there’s an Anthony Naples remix with a beat which sounds like it’s being played backwards underwater and percussive chopped up vocal samples. It turns into quite a pumpy bit of repeato-techno weirdness as layers keep getting added on and it’s fairly harsh to listen to...aimed towards the dancefloor rather than the bedroom I think! Pretty decent but let’s face it, the track you’re interested in is the tasty slice of classic-sounding Four Tet on the A, and I really don’t think it’ll disappoint you.
