Oh hello again Animal Collective. Not seen you in a while (seen plenty of people trying to copy you though)...This single’s a little bit toytown, lots of pings and boinks making a big wonky fairground groove with ethereal chopped up vocals all over it and uplifting vocal harmonies towards the end. Kim says it sounds like the Animal Collective and I’d be inclined to agree. Some of their strongest and funnest material too, I think, with maybe a touch of Gang Gang Dance about it.
Flip it and there’s a slower more soulful indie number that’s very Menomena-esque, I’m weirdly getting a touch of Pall Jenkins from the vocals, particularly ‘Another Desert...’-era Three Mile Pilot, maybe a bit of The Notwist in the playful but minimal tones. It’s really good. If you like Menomena (and you should) I reckon you’ll be more into this than the A side, but that’s good too so it’s a win/win really.
