This 7” single precedes the release of Matthew E. White’s anticipated full-length album, Big Inner , out on Hometapes/Spacebomb in August. ”One of These Days” is your rst introduction not just to White, but to new label (and Hometapes partner) Spacebomb and its process. Spacebomb, based in Richmond, VA, is built on an in-house production team and old-fashioned record-making techniques: a house band, extensive prep and written charts, horns, strings, choirs, and recording to tape -- in the tradition of labels like Stax and Motown. Spacebomb honors the spirit and processes of the last century of song recording...to create a new American sound.
Matthew E. White, in his lauded avant-garde jazz band Fight the Big Bull, has released albums on Clean Feed & Fat Cat, performed around the country and collaborated with artists like Ken Vandermark, Steven Bernstein, Karl Blau, Megafaun, Sharon Van Etten and Justin Vernon. Matthew E. White, leading Fight the Big Bull, worked closely with Megafaun on their commissioned Sounds of the South program, performing at Duke University and at MusicNOW (with an album to be released in 2013 on Hometapes). Matthew E. White will headline the 2012 Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh, NC this September. The performance, entitled One Incantation Under God , will feature 35+ performers and an unprecedented live manifestation of the album Big Inner . The B-side,“Ain’t That What Love Is”, features Phil Cook of Megafaun on piano. The 7” is packaged in a heavy PVC jacket and wrapped in a luscious die-cut, two-color cover designed by graphic wizards Forest.
