I have apparently reviewed Girls Names before according to our search engine. My comparison to brittle twee pop bands on that release doesn’t hold sway on their track on this new split single. It has a dark edgy 80’s sound, full of swirling synths and carefully picked guitar lines. Comparisons to the Chameleons and Echo and the Bunnymen are just as apt as some other modern day movers like Beach Fossils and Big Troubles.
On the flip Weird Dreams do an utterly gorgeous drifting summery splashy slab of indie, it sounds very much like The Legendary Jim Ruiz Group or Kostars and for anyone not attuned to those names (ie. everyone) it’s a laid back, stretched out, wistful lullaby for the summer that won’t arrive.
