A new release on the esteemed Mordant Music is always met with open arms and ears around these parts. Having followed the label since its genesis looking back on the catalogue it’s clear that the curation / creation follows its own unique path in electronic music and you really never know what to expect.
This weighty 12” is no exception. ‘Post MorteM’ is something like the bastard lovechild of Ekoplekz and Conrad Schnitzler with hints of exploratory early electronic music but looking forward rather than retro-backwards. Pure analogue sounds from the Pro-One synthesizer fizz away in a lavishly spooky fashion with low end rumbles and gurgles, the machines sound almost possessed by semi-evil spirits while freaked out drum rolls offer a sense of warped rhythm. This is some serious Twilight Zone shit!
‘ModeM’ is equally if not more freaky where the machines appear to be desperately transmitting some urgent alien code to us, the people of earth. Science fiction on wax - Ghosts in the machine as it were.
