This is one of two Andrzej Korzynski scores for Andrzej Zulawski films we’ve got in today from Finders Keepers and I have to say that in a week of amazing classic film soundtracks coming out this is really holding its own, and I’m delighted to get this introduction to the Polish composer Korzynski - clearly someone I’ll have to do a little homework on later.
This soundtrack - the first of many collaborations between the two - is a delightfully melodic, sinister and powerful recording, mixing the neoclassical atmospherics you’d expect from a suspense film with some flamboyant psych rock and jazz leanings, with the wah attack of the opening track in particular bound to delight and astound garage fanatics everywhere.
The fact that such a heavy psych rock gem is to be found on a record which flits between rock, jazz and orchestral styles so comfortably only adds to its charm and this is a record I wanted to put on again as soon as it finished. Bloody marvellous.
