The Black Belles hit us with a second single from their self-titled debut on that Jack White lad’s Third Man records. Not got much to say really. It’s produced by Jack White and sounds kinda like The White Stripes. It’s a country style ditty I can imagine Dolly P. singing bolstered with big budget RAAAAWK production, mass solo’s and an overuse of the POG (a Jack White signature I’m sure you’ll recognise by now) pedal. As you can imagine, I’m not a big fan.
The exclusive B-side ‘Ms. Black Boots’ starts kinda like ‘Smoke On The Water’ before drifting into spook-rock territory. Words like ‘misery’, ‘deception’ and ‘shadow’ are bounded about like nobody’s business and it also features a ghoulish Hammond organ...oooooohhh. I hope Third Man dissolves soon.
