Bristol’s Shrag are back with a new 7” on Fortuna POP!, which offers the most polished example of their jangly indie pop I’ve seen yet. It reminds me of a girl-fronted take on that first Wedding Present album after their long hiatus, quite smooth, gliding, melodic stuff. Little bit repetitive but entirely inoffensive. It’s one of those singles where I very much prefer the B side. ‘Trains That You’re Not On’ is a bouncy little number with some call-and-response vocals which I’ve just noticed are very, very similar to a Kaiser Chiefs song...’The Modern Age’? Something like that. I’m not sure I prefer it any more. All you fans of Allo Darlin’, Evans The Death and their lot will like this though, I’m sure.
