Sun Araw, M. Geddes Gengras & The Congos - FRKWYS Vol. 9 : Meet The Congos (Vinyl LP, CD)

Yeaaaaah boiii!! I'm a fan of this FRKWYS series that RVNG have been doing (for the uninitiated, this is a series of records which pairs up modern day artists with the pioneers of their particular styles for an inter-generational love-in) and on this one here they've pulled out all the stops, sending modern post-dubbers Cameron “Sun Araw” Stallones and M. Geddes Gengras to Jamaica for this collaboration with dub legends The Congos. They've gone all out on the packaging this time, too. Each copy not only comes with a DVD but a cool little poster, and there's colour printed sleeves instead of the pasted black and white ones previously seen in this series. The album is packed with totally sweet summer vibes which totally capture both the laid-back positivity of The Congos and the surreal spacious bong vibes of Stallones (sorry M, I'm not familiar with your music to compare). The joy and camaraderie are palpable, even without the DVD which follows them as they get high and mess around in absolutely stunning surroundings, and the amount of carefree, love-filled vibes crammed onto this disc warrant a place in anyone's record collection. This could well be THE essential record of summer 2012, just total warm, relaxing brilliance which perfectly captures a moment of creativity between a group of well-matched and intuitive talents. Can't recommend this highly enough.
