Apparently Yva is a motherfucker says the press release. Bit harsh possibly when you're trying to get folks to buy the record? Who wants to buy a record by a motherfucker? Well this particular MF used to be in Sweet 75 with Krist Novoselic of Nirvana fame. They never took off as you well know. Yva used to busk all over Seattle (where she moved to from Venezuela) and she was beaten up for her music, been homeless and a drug addict, suffered heart attacks and even had her teeth stolen! Crazy times.... Anyway you get 9 tracks of Yva playing a banjo style stringed instrument (it could be a banjo but I'm not sure) and her singing in Spanish. You can 100% hear the emotion in her voice.... she totally feels what she's singing. At times her voices reminds me of the wailing woman from the Tuneyards while she's singing about crack whores and that. There's a bunch of traditional Venezuelan work songs on there and when she's not singing in Spanish you can hear all the swear words which is nice. She's a huge ball of energy and emotion and has obviously lived a life that most of you wouldn't want to live. Now you too, can share her experiences too on LP and CD courtesy of Moniker Records.
