Ah, it's been a while since we've had a 7” in from The See See. They seem to almost exclusively put out singles and they're always painstakingly vintage-sounding little psych pop nuggets and almost invariably worth a punt. Surprise, surprise, 'Gold & Honey' is exactly that, with the Ace Tone keys and La's-esque jangly guitars in full effect. Groovy, baby. On the flip there's a long song which opens with some calming drones before a Who-esque keyboard line introduces a summery laid back kraut groove, with a slight Canterbury synthy folky vibe like when Matt Berry does his swirling psychedelic passages. By the end there's some majestic '80s synth on top. It sounds like a more lighthearted Cave or something. This is flippin' brilliant! More of these drawn-out psych instrumentals please dudes! Even if you're not normally into these guys, if you've enjoyed the ace recent sevens by the likes of Dead Skeletons, Goat and The Dalai Lama Rama Fa Fa Fa then this song just might change your mind about them! Top marks.
