Got a bunch of 7”s from 453 Music this week. It's a series of split 7” to promote The Bruise Cruise. Now, I'm assuming the Bruise Cruise is some kind of event that occurs on a cruise boat but I don't really know....could be anything. Always a pleasure to hear Quintron & Miss Pussycat rockin' the house. 'Banana Beat' is a typical slice of Quintron fun. A kooky, children's TV style affair littered with chanty vocals and overdriven organ. Thee Oh Sees are almost always good. Their contribution, 'F.B.I.A.2.', is a muddy slice of psychedelic nonsense featuring an excellent (an audible) Dywer vocal rant. Sonically it's quite odd for Thee Oh Sees and is more in keeping with the 'Castlevania' LP than anything they perform as a group. It's got a real dirgy Krautrock feel and is a must for anyone seeking out new Thee Oh Sees flavs. Great 7”.
This year's new 4-record series promoting the Bruise Cruise. Each release will feature 2 artists performing on the Cruise (with the exception of the Neil Hamburger 1-sided record) and is limited to 800 copies (300 to Cruise attendees - 500 available to retail stores).
