My organ of love is sadly underused these days. In fact I'm not sure it even works anymore. Probably for the best as theres' a blurred pair of breasts on the cover of this quite sleazy record. Its made by a naughty couple of people, the man half used to be in Altered Images before going on to One Dove which is today's amazing fact. The electronics are done in that minimal style utilized all the way through the ages from the likes of Suicide and The Normal to Adult and Ladytron. In fact the latter two bands are a good place to start if I were making immediate comparisons. The most pleasant sounding track here is called 'Facefuck' and features the lady half squeaking. It's interesting stuff, lots of old school analogue electronics and drum machines with keening, sensual (oh god) vocals. Naughty but nice as they used to say. I'm off for another cold shower.
* Organs of Love are the power-sleaze duo of James McKinven (organs, love) and Alicia Matthews (vocals, love).
* James McKinven's musical odyssey started with playing synth in (Kraftwerk, Suicide-inspired) electro band Berlin Blondes. He then moved on to Altered Images. After that he worked in Genetic Studios learning from the modern day genius that was producer Martin Rushent (Human League, The Stranglers, The Buzzcocks). Then went on to form One Dove and worked with maverick genius Andy Weatherall. After that he drifted back to where it all started, Analog Electro, and Miss Alicia Matthews.
* Alicia Matthews has quite a different background – one from fine art and performance. Through working together at the same bar and having many intoxicating late night chats, they decided to try to get back to a 70s theatrical, musical PERFORMANCE: where live music and art combine for something beyond the rock gig vibe. And luckily enough, Miss Matthews has quite the pair of pipes – a true vocal delight.
* The result is ORGANS OF LOVE…who frequently perform live around Glasgow and have quite the reputation of THEE band to see. Videos can be provided, but they’re not for the faint-hearted!
* Not that Optimo Music ever provide a dull moment….
