On lime green vinyl, the exact same colour as a t-shirt I was forced to wear the other night at some work-related thing or other. Just for the record - lime green is NOT my colour. Anyway this is the latest in a series of Where It's At Is Where You Are 7”s. This is like the kind of 7”s your dad used to make (if your dad was in Feverfew or Mousefolk). The A side has one track, the B side has two. The lead track is one of those slightly dark, rolling slow burners that sounds like a Nick Cave who has grown up listening solely to The Field Mice. I'm reminded too of some of Felt's latter moments and also those early Go-Betweens tension filled moments (such as 'Eight Pictures'). The opening gambit on side two is a pleasant little stroll down acoustic avenue with a stop off at trumpet towers and a diversion at mumbled vocal roundabout. It's very breezy and pleasant. The second tune is lovely, simple acoustic guitar strums and a melody which once again recalls The Go-Betweens' more winsome efforts.
7”release w/ download code. The Wave Pictures are proud to announce that their first release of 2012 will be on WIAIWYA as part of the label’s seven-themed 7” Singles Club. The three exclusive tracks, “Salt”, “New Born Deer” and “Sugar Maple Charcoal” were all recorded just after their latest album Beer In The Breakers and show the band in a reflective, folky mood - more After The Goldrush than Rust Never Sleeps. The Wave Pictures have defiantly trodden their own path, like a 21st century the Band, releasing three full length albums, 2008’s “Instant Coffee Baby” – short listed for the Guardian New Album Award and featured in many an end of year poll – the follow up “If You Leave It Alone”, and 2011’s “Beer In The Breakers”, as well as a number of solo records, acting as backing band for (among others) Daniel Johnston, Jeffrey Lewis and the Mountain Goats, and picking up an ever-growing devoted following along the way. “Lyrically, The Wave Pictures turn on a dime. They can zip from the richly observed into amusingly confessional into a Lewis Carol flight of fancy.” 8/10 NME // “The Wave Pictures are currently conjuring the most gleeful, magnificent pop in town.” GUARDIAN // “At their helm The Wave Pictures have a writer who captures expertly the bitter romance of British life.” ***** TIME OUT // wiaiwya-7777777 is the wiaiwya singles club for 2012, where subscribers will get seven 7" singles; 21 exclusive tracks on 14 grooves by 7 bands, released on each of the 7 days of the week, on the 7th day of the month, on vinyl the 7 colours of the rainbow in limited editions of 777. Released on a Saturday, on subdued mint green vinyl, the Wave Pictures single has liner notes about sevens in London from former head honcho of Sarah Records, and chief of Smoke, a London Peculiar – Matt Haynes
