Rhyton - Rhyton

Rhyton by Rhyton

4...according to our on Fri 20 Jan, 2012.

Well, Thrill Jockey are certainly kicking out the psych jams this week...here's a pretty limited little number (500 LPs, 200 CDs) from brand new Brooklyn psych/improv trio Rhyton. As is to be expected in such musically fertile grounds, these chaps are all veterans of some sort of another from the likes of No-Neck Blues Band and Psychic Ills, so you know there'll be no pissing about here. They're straight down to business with a bouncy krauty space-blues jam where the three of them gradually rock up a storm with overdriven, reverby guitar and pounding but quite thin and live-sounding bass and quite jazzy drums with lots of busy fills. It's like it's coming direct from the seventies, production-wise, and that's not a criticism, it totally suits their sound. If you're into the current crop of bong rockers like Gnod and White Hills and Cave, here's another name to get on your radar.

•    Rhyton are an experimental / improve / psych trio based in Brooklyn that features Dave Shuford (D. Charles Speer And The Helix, No Neck Blues Band), Jimy SeiTang (Psychic Ills) and Spencer Herbst (Messages, Matta Llama).

•    Dave Shuford aka D. Charles Speer released two albums on Thrill Jockey last year: ‘Arghiledes’ and ‘Leaving The Commonwealth’ and is a founding member of the long running No Neck Blues Band.

•    LP version is limited to only 500 copies worldwide and includes a postcard insert and free download coupon. CD version is limited to 200 hand-made and hand-numbered copies. Front cover features a hand-glued image, back is hand-stamped.

•    Rhyton will be touring in support of this self-titled debut album.
