Francois & The Atlas Mountains are the first French act to be signed to Domino which begs the question - why has it taken them so long to branch out? I mean, France is only over there. Anyway, after a superb debut on Fence and a string of live dates that include support slots with King Creosote & Jon Hopkins and Camera Obscura the group return with their sophomore effort 'E Volo Love'. Influenced primarily by African and Middle Eastern rhythms as well as the plethora of indie-rock groups eternally doing the rounds they make music not all that dissimilar to their London based counterparts. 'E Volo Love' is jam-packed with lush pop songs that are cleverly augmented with tasteful rhythmic shifts and super subtle use of instrumentation to support, as opposed to over complicate, what are essentially simple pop songs. A very tasteful affair indeed.
• ‘E Volo Love’ is the new album from Domino’s first French signings, Fránçois & The Atlas Mountains.
• The album’s hot buttered sound comes from its wide range of influences, from French chanson, traditional indie pop and Aphex Twin to African and Middle Eastern sounds, which can be heard in particular on ‘Les Plus Beaux’ and ‘Do You Want To Dance’, which bookend the album.
• The album was mixed by Tinariwen’s studio bod, Jean-Paul Romann.
• The band’s previous album was release on the estimable Fence Records and they have previously toured with King Creosote & Jon Hopkins and Camera Obscura.
