• As always, Finn’s depth of lyricism won’t leave Hold Steady fans disappointed, yet there are enough stylistic shifts here to set this apart from his previous incarnation. Here he deals with feelings of solitude (‘Apollo Bay’), heartbreak (‘Not Much Left Of Us’), hope, and also religion (‘New Friend Jesus’).
