See My Boat by Rozi Plain

We've got a delightful little single here from dreamy folk-popper Rozi Plain, who's put together a delicate little twee number called 'See My Boat' on the A side which bursts unexpectedly into lo-fi party weirdness in the middle that recalls the Mae-Shi. Really quite an unusual and charming piece which is slickly arranged but still has that lo-fi bedroom pop feel. Clever ideas and big tunes in a concise little package. Flip it and her famous friends are chipping in with their own interpretations of her songs. First up This Is The Kit do 'When Are You Coming? Come On!', which is a pretty piece of folk pop with silky vocals and a fingerpicked guitars which are joined by an accordion and trumpet and handclaps for the rousing choruses. Then Pete 'and the Pirates' Heffernan chips in with 'The Post', which he turns into a hushed hymn with reverby guitar and warm organ drones. Sounds quite Christmassy actually, bit of a spooky 'When A Child Is Born' feel about it. Drags on a bit to be honest, I like Rozi Plain's own side the best, but the covers

Bristol-based indie-folk mastermind Rozi Plain was born Rosalind Leyden in Winchester 25 years ago. The unassuming charm of Rozi’s live show has led to tours across Europe, the UK & USA. Notable tours include supporting Devendra Banhart (who fell for her debut album “Inside Over Here” – on King Creosote’s Fence Records – and named it one of his albums of last year), James Yorkston and Viking Moses, as well as appearances at festivals such as Green Man, End Of The Road and Fence Record’s flagship event Homegame. Whether performing alone or joined by an assembly of her regular musical allies (including François & The Atlas Mountains, This Is The Kit, Rachael Dadd and Sleeping States) her songs possess both fragility and a sense of plucky charisma in one fell swoop.

Recordings have recently been finished for her second album, due for release in 2012, from which “See My Boat” is taken. It also is a follow-up to Need No Waterʼs previous release with Rozi back in May, Humans, which enjoyed incredible radio success in the UK, confidently claiming fans of Lauren Laverne, Josie Long, Gideon Coe and Marc Riley for whom Rozi recorded a session in October, as well as reaching brand new audiences through the fantastic RocketNumberNine remix on the b-side.

“See My Boat” is a fan favourite from Rozi’s recent live shows and features the talents of Sleeping States‘ Markland Starkie on drums and François Marry, of François & The Atlas Mountains on guitar.

This release, on 7 inch and digital formats comes with 2 covers of Rozi’s songs, the first “When Are You Coming, Come On!” by regular cohortThis Is The Kit and the other by Pete Hefferan of Pete & The Pirates, who covers “The Post” taken from Rozi’s debut album “Inside Over Here”.
