Yowza! I'll give it to them Arctic Monkeys kids, they certainly know how to surprise. Last time I remember hearing them they'd transformed into Queens Of The Stoneage. Now they're kicking all baggy like James. Yep, 'Black Treacle' is a classic slice of early nineties style baggy pop and it sounds pretty reasonable to me. If anything they're versatile bunch. Flip and Ricky Hawley makes an appearance with the Arctic lads backing in their apparently infamous Death Ramps guise. Now they sound like QOTSA again with Hawley acting as the their resident Mark Lanegan. It's a total balls out rocker with solo's real high in the mix and Hawley sounding all gruff and shit like he just smoked 40 cigars before he hit the studio. Like how they've got UK and US style guises nowadays. Gotta be good for the market share. Cheeky.
