Clan Destine is a relatively new label but I'm thoroughly impressed with their output so far...there was a superb and very limited comp LP with some great and relatively unknown acts on it earlier in the year, then the new Hey Colossus LP, and I couldn't be much more excited about the fact that they're about to put out an LP by Ela Orleans, because I'm already in danger of overplaying her latest 'Mars Is Heaven' opus to death, it's that good. But I digress. This fun little album from London, England's The Pheromoans is full of brittle little garage ditties with plenty of breathing space under their super-minimal guitar lines. They're a band I know little about, but all the bands linked to this label seem to have a bit of an air of mystery about them. A rare thing in this day and age of cyber information saturation and one which is totally welcome if you ask me. Anyway, this Pheromoans album is dead charming. The lyrics are tongue-in-cheek and there's an unsettling emptiness about the sound that garage fans are bound to warm to. It's reminding me of a British take on In The Red's weirdo underdogs The Intelligence or maybe even Strange Boys with their weirdly hollow garage sound, but this is perhaps a little more skeletal and less experimental. A solid debut.
