Ah, the reunion show. A notoriously dangerous ground. Will you soar like a Take That or sink like a Steps? Well, by the evidence of this epic 22-track live collection from everyone's favourite proto-grungers The Jesus Lizard, they went the former way. The recordings contained on these here records sound faithfully unhinged and sinister throughout, and come as a timely reminder of how much better the 'Lizard were than, well, just about anybody else. Sinewy bass grooves and skeletal trebly guitar over violently propulsive drums over which Yow's trademark demented rants are sprinkled. That combination of restraint and primal aggression make for a sound that to this day is still more gut-churningly sinister than any of their modern day counterparts. Add to that the fact that the tracklist here reads like a perfectly compiled list of their best songs and the fact this has been pressed in a one-time-only run of 1,000 means that even at this price you can't afford to sit on it. I'm having one anyway. Basically what you need to know is that the recording quality is immaculate, the vinyl pressing is good and the band play blistering versions of all the classics with some amusingly confrontational banter between songs (at one point Yow is bragging about the amount of money they're making from the reunion with figures so obscene I half-hope he was making them up). Taking those facts into account, the real question here is why on earth you wouldn't buy this.

Chunklet  is beyond thrilled to announce the release of “The Jesus Lizard: CLUB” on 2xLP gatefold for worldwide distribution on December 6, 2011.

This is the vinyl soundtrack to the DVD which came out in September. "CLUB” is the definitive document of the The Jesus Lizard reunited for their first American performance in over a decade at the Exit/In in Nashville in 2009.

It was a tour that was heralded the world over, with stops at festivals and clubs all over the world. Sasha Frere-Jones, writing for The New Yorker: "It may have been the only reunion show I’ve ever seen where I forgot almost immediately that the band hadn’t played together in more than a decade."

Featuring the entire evening’s performance, “The Jesus Lizard: CLUB” goes inside a fan-favorite set list of an incendiary performance from one of the greatest bands of the modern era. “CLUB” is being released as a double-LP in a gatefold jacket. A one time edition of 1,000 copies. Mail-order copies available on colored vinyl.
