This is an album of blown-out garage where pop songs are delivered with everything cranked right up. These are basically fast-paced indie songs, but the guitar and bass tones are so scuzzy and ragged and the boy/girl vocals so blasé and snotty that it comes out as garage punk. You don't have to look hard for the tunes, though. They're everywhere and they're catchy as fuck, and all the distortion and detritus and bulldozer bass and neanderthal drumming can do little to disguise that fact. I like it when bands have enough confidence in their tunes to allow them to undergo this kind of abuse, and with the pace at which these songs are delivered it comes out sounding like the bastard offspring of Marked Men and Puffy Areolas. Maybe a touch of Tyvek and Wrangler Brutes in places, too. I'm really enjoying this record at the moment. If you're of the garagey persuasion I strongly suggest you investigate this.
