This tape is a compilation. Unlike the still running “NOW.. 7000!!!” (or whatever number their on nowadays..) series, this tape is a collection of underground ambient folk/electronica/ /tape collage/lo-fi noisenik and a soupcon of shoegaze. Not a Kajagoogoo or Brother Beyond in sight. Which is a shame and a blessing because you get to hear such underground acts as Gilder Bliss, Man In The Dark, In Atoms, Flowers, Rubber Burns (Who's he? A Scottish poet??) and the amazingly named Garry The Unicorn. The whole tapes an eclectic, occasionally awesome collection of cuts. I must admit (...dont call me a Mustard Mitt!!?!!) I was quite taken by the more folkier elements on this tape. In fact I had to hasten to the nearest really thick jumper specialist and buy a denser jumper. As with most compilations it's a relatively hit and miss affair, but with this much diversity your bound to come across the occasional clanger. Luckily the majority of these tracks are quite good and have enough going for them to warrant a purchase. A hotbed of ideas, some good, some not bad..but none that you wouldn't want to check out. Lovely stuff...
Ancient Fires is a compilation featuring tracks from Man In The Dark, Gilda Bliss, Garry The Unicorn, Blanket, Band Activity, Flowers, Templeton, In Atoms, The Slow 250, Pedro and White Doggy. The compilation is an eclectic, lo-fi concoction of underground folk music, ambient, tape collage, electronica, shoegaze and noise music.
