Jack Underwood - Wilderbeast

Wilderbeast by Jack Underwood

A few months ago it was decided that OGen004 would be a vinyl and digital release of some poems by Jack Underwood. We had no real idea how much interest would be generated by a 7" single of poetry but everyone who had heard Jack's poetry seemed to like it and the idea was we would treat it like any other release of a song by a band - we thought that if we didn't make out we thought it was a  little odd that nobody else would.

As often happens outside influences conspired to help us with what we were doing. A little research -  to be honest, one of the only things we could think of - notified us that there was (as there seems to be with everything from sausages to bringing your pets to work) a day that was set aside as National Poetry Day.  What's more, it fell on October 6th - a matter of weeks away.

We wondered if anyone actually did anything on National Poetry Day, or, if like Take Your Dog to Work Day it was
just an odd note on that day's page in your diary. We were unsure whether regular radio stations would be interested in
poetry but we sent them Jack's poems anyway

Nearly a week before National Poetry Day we received an email from XFM's John Kennedy saying that he loved the poem Maths so much that he was playing it that night on his show, which he did.

We uploaded Maths, Toad and Wilderbeast onto Soundcloud and Tim began to send them round via twitter reminding people that National Poetry Day was nearly upon us.

Stewart Parsons from Get It Loud In Libraries replied with the message "I LOVE toad - we ought to do something together" Stewart has been putting on ground breaking music, comedy and poetry events with the likes of Scroobius Pip, Josie Long in libraries up and down the country.
