The Twilight Sad - Sick

The Twilight Sad's debut 'Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters' was, lest we forget, a solid gold classic - a record which every self respecting fan of noise/melody/Scottishness should own. Since then they have drifted a little, the second album 'Forget the Night Ahead' was hit and miss, lacking the intensity of the debut and its follow up EP 'The Wrong Car' was just full on disappointing. But just when you start to write them off as a one album wonder they come back with this excellent single. They've obviously been having a re-think as this has a much more electronic flavour without losing the noise and intensity of their earlier sound, it has a brooding quality with James Graham's heavily accented Scottish vocals picking out carefully chosen words. It actually sounds not unlike Radiohead at their very best (i.e. something like  'Knives Out') fronted by Rab C Nesbitt. On the flip we get a 'demo' which is fragile and affecting. On this form, I'm looking forward to their new LP (due Feb '12) immensely.
