The master (blaster) of modern funk/soul returns with a direct hit onto your hearing pipes. This guy is proper awesome. He sounds like the coolest mofo in the world, with the coolest voice and by all accounts, some really cool equipment. The songs on this record have been available for mass consumption for some time, but that's no problem as they all have ace moments (although I reckon I could probably take or leave the James Pants wig-out) of soulful wonder. The tracks have been on Funks “Adolescent Funk” album, which was compiled from cuts between '88 and 91, and from his massive two hour long funk odyssey “Toeachizown” LP.
These cuts really seem to come alive in a live situation, channeling the hard funk chops of Prince with lashing of modern punk funk a la The Time. If you are familiar with his canon, this record will delight, if you are not au fait with the Funk-meister then you should embrace his soul stylings. His latest record is called “Master Blaster” and it is a live record of sorts.
This LP was performed, recorded, mixed, mastered and cut directly to laquer masters in real time at Capsule Labs in L.A...if this doesn't get yer flow going I don't know what will. All in all a great record that feels great and sounds proper amazing. Get yer Funk on...
Throughout the year, Stones Throw has been producing a series of live shows in a recording studio facility in east L.A. The shows are being recorded directly to vinyl as they happen with no computers, tape, or digital gear used in the recording process.
Dam-Funk and his band Master Blazter played Direct to Disc #3 on August 19th, and we're now presenting the vinyl cut from the session. This 6-track LP is a limited edition, hand-stamped white label.
