Ensemble Economique is the tongue-in-cheek name of Starving Weirdo Brian Pyle's solo thing he does. It's synth-and-loop based stuff that's totally relaxing and melodic and gently paced and it's helping me calm down, since I'm completely hyperactive today in anticipation of tomorrow's big ATP mission that I won't shut up about. I reckon everyone else in the office must be pretty fucking sick of my chirpiness today. Anyway, this record's all about the sparse beats and smooth synth tones taking you on chonged out flights of fancy that are really deep and expressive, duuuude. Woah. Awesome collage on the front cover, too. And before this record this guy has put stuff out on Not Not Fun and Amish, which sounds pretty goddamn pedigree to me. You can totally see why, by the evidence of these gently grooving, slightly sinister explorations in cosmic scrumptiousness. All the cuts on here so seductive and creamy I don't know what to do with myself. He's painstakingly created all these idyllic tone landscapes for you to hang out in, it'd be rude not to have a wander around, right?
It's an exquisite feeling, to taste the truth, to let it wrap you completely, to feel it's ecstatic warmth, to let it ripple through you, to let you feel life with every breath, as if day and night are colliding, and sparks exploding, and the sky turning deep red, and night falls like a blanket, and the wind is a soft whisper, and the dune grass are like blades, piercing blackness. Ensemble Economique is Brian Pyle of Starving Weirdos and RV Painting. His solo project (hence the slightly ironic moniker) has previously released a CD on Digitalis in 2008 and two recent LP's on Amish and Not Not Fun Records. His music is highly narrative and cinematic mixing synth loops and electronic rhythms with epic organic structures. Crossing The Pass, By Torchlight is the culmination of Pyle's previous works presenting his most refined album so far.
