Nils Frahm - Juno

Is this a tribute to that indie flick about the pregnant mardy Canadian lassie? Probably not! This is absolutely one of the loveliest things I've ever heard him do though to be honest, the recent album fell between the cracks in my mind and I didn't enjoy it particularly (it was possibly drowned out slightly in the chuntering, thumping chaos of this chilly barn we reside in). However 'Juno' is double-headed “audio gift” for friend and fellow traveller Peter Broderick, made to showcase his undoubted pianist's chops on (presumably) a Juno synthesizer the Brodmeister liked the sound of so much! Side A is graceful, bubbling slice of ambient synth mood music that has the same emotional impact as Aphex's discreet pieces. “Fucking lovely” is the only way to describe it. The flip is equally gorgeous with a more hazy, searching kosmische feel twinned with an undeniable, irresistible 'Geogaddi'-era BOC profile. Wow, I can probably live without his choccie box piano tinkles but this two-sided sweetie is going in my homeward bound box right this minute!!!
