Calexico - Selections From Road Atlas 1998-2011

Selections From Road Atlas 1998-2011 by Calexico

During the past 14 years, Calexico have self‐released eight tour CDs. These tour CDs, pressed in limited quantities, have been made available only at Calexico’s live concerts. Comprised of recordings not included on any of Calexico’s “official” releases, these tour CDs have served to chart the alternative listening history behind the “official” releases; offering a career spanning look at the evolution of Calexico. All of these tour CDs have now been re‐mastered for this limited vinyl box set by JJ Golden. To maintain the highest audio fidelity, the eight CDs have been pressed as twelve discs for inclusion inthe Road Atlas 1998‐2011 box set.
Lest the casual Calexico fan or compact disc loving luddite feel left out, City Slang will also be issuing the accompanying Selections from Road Atlas 1998‐2011 CD. Comprised of 16 tracks from the Road Atlas 1998‐2011 box set, hand‐ picked by the band themselves, the Selections from Road Atlas 1998‐2011 CD offers a well rounded selection of songs spanning the 14 year history of Calexico’s tour CDs. It sits nicely next to any other “official” Calexico release already in your catalog.
The CD also contains an eight‐page booklet of excerpts from the larger box set book. The booklet includes selections from Fred Mills liner notes, photos, and sketches by the band.
Based in Tucson, AZ, the band, mostly known for their “Southwest” sound and vibe, has actually been a melting pot of various musical styles. Calexico effortlessly slide from world music to country/Americana to indie rock and jazz; sometimes all in the course of one song! The recordings contained in Road Atlas 1998‐2011 and Selections showcase
the lack of boundaries the band has held themselves to over the course of last fifteen years. In total the band have released six full‐length albums, six original material tour albums (and two live tour albums), five EPs (one a collaboration with Iron & Wine), and a live DVD. Additionally, they have performed and recorded with notable musicians such as Andrew Bird, Neko Case, Amos Lee, Nancy Sinatra, Glen Hansard, and many more.
