(Disappointed Cloud) Anyway by Leila

4...according to our on Wed 14 Dec, 2011.

Classy foil-stamped covers on this latest EP from Warp electro-chameleon Leila. She remains terribly difficult to pin down on this EP. On the A side we've got lead track (Disappointed Cloud) Anyway followed by an instrumental version of said track. The lead track's uneasily melodic, with a detached and androgynous vocal line over some scratchy beats and weird electronic tones. Flip it and there's a thumping bass number followed by a chilled out and slightly cosmic piece to close. It can come across as a little sterile and showy in places but all three songs are impeccably constructed and produced. Hats off.

• Sonic sorceress and Bjork co-conspirator Leila returns with her first new material in almost three years. ‘(Disappointed Cloud) Anyway’ illustrates a transition into darker and harder territory after the disarming and charming oddity of her 2008 Warp album ‘Blood Looms & Blooms’.

•    The lead track features Mt. Simms on vocals - he features as a guest vocalist on her forthcoming album, after meeting Leila at a fancy dress party (he was dressed as a computer part – Leila came as Leila).

•    Strictly limited to 500 copies worldwide.

• Includes two extra unreleased tracks and an instrumental that will not feature on her forthcoming album ‘U&I’.

Tracks:

A1. (disappointed cloud) anyway
A2. (disappointed cloud) anyway (Instrumental)
B1. not havin' that
B2. inci
