The Early Years - Complicity / Fallen Star

Complicity / Fallen Star by The Early Years

3...according to our on Thu 03 Nov, 2011.

The Early Years have been knocking about for a fair few years. I believe they used to be on Beggars Banquet and harboured ambitions of being the next Spiritualized. Well now they are kicking it on the Sonic Cathedral label and making straight-up spaced out Krautrock. It doesn't take a genius to hear the obvious influence of NEU! on opening track 'Complicity', it's so frickin' blatant! I'm mean I love that sound and they do a good job of it but they ain't doing much to disguise it from Rother's. Flip it you get a tune I can describe as a band original without having to bite my lip. It's got a Kraut meets atmospheric rock anthem approach to the music that is strangely appealing in an Elbow sense and reminds me of Radiohead, especially in the vocal delivery.

Limited-edition orange vinyl 7" featuring two new songs from The Early Years, their first new material in over three years. The single is being released to coincide with the band's reunion show at The CAMP Basement in London on November 2, and initially was only available at the show. 'Complicity' continues with the band's krautrock excursions, with synths and guitars looping around each other over a propulsive rhythm. 'Fallen Star' is slow-building spacerock, which builds and builds before burning out in a haze of frazzled distortion. Now all we can hope is that the reunion is a permanent one, because this is quite a comeback.
