Dro Carey - Journey With The Heavy

Journey With The Heavy by Dro Carey

3...according to our on Fri 06 Jan, 2012.

We're just discussing how to make a record like this. For a start get the old 4/4 beat going that will be a start, get some cliched soul samples on the boil. Don't even think about injecting anything bass heavy. In fact why bother with basslines at all! What we have here is a very swift take on your post dubstep squelsh, very light on its feet and so fast you'd think it was at the wrong speed but for once I have pressed the right button.  Its a double 12”, opener 'Talk Smak' features cut up female vocals, creating a melody of sorts, surrounded by slightly discordant synths.  Its technically ok and is blatantly in love with early skittery house music but I'm struggling to find a hint of soul, melody or any real inventiveness amongst all the intricate programming.

RAMP is very proud to present the first release on the label from new signing, Dro Carey.
Coming straight outta Sydney, Austraila, the DroC has been actively freaking people out with his Brain So Soft Tumblr for the past 18 months, earning him a place in FACT Magazine’s coveted Ones To Watch in 2011. A few almost impossible to get hold of releases on Will Bankead’s Trilogy Tapes, Templar Sound, and Ikonika’s Hum&Buzz, labels followed, along with an epic 2 hour FACT mix.
Both an audio and visual artist, Dro arrives at RAMP with new EP; Journey With The Heavy, and first real mission statement to the world. Written as a love letter to early House music, Carey’s EP is as unhinged and hazy as his previous work, but showing a new, fresh, focused approach to his sound. His music lands deep in the Atlantic, equidistant from both the rhythms of modern day London & yearning dulcet harmonies of Detroit.
Keep your eyes peeled for the forthcoming Journey With The Heavy video, coming soon.
