Crushed Beaks - Close Ups

Close Ups by Crushed Beaks

•    Welcome to the October instalment of the Too Pure Singles Club 2011. Following on from the rather raucous DZ Deathrays, they bring you another rambunctious release in the form of London’s Crushed Beaks.

•    Crushed Beaks began life as the bedroom project and musical outlet of Alex Morris (drums) and Matthew Poile (guitar, vocals). Bonding over a shared love of Italian horror movies, the guys began work on Crushed Beaks in 2010. Fuzzy walls of noise combine with frenetic, pounding drums and swirling melodies to create a sound much bigger than its constituent parts. Hastily recording early demos the band galvanised their sound and quickly developed a ferocious live show balancing the wilder, noisy elements with the melodies that underpin Crushed Beaks sound. In 2011 Crushed Beaks drew attention with their raucous and infectious racket and began recording ‘Close-Ups’ and ‘Sun Dogs’ in a church and a wendy house respectively.

• Approaching their writing the same way they approach their live show, Crushed Beaks either finish up a song in an hour or two or scrap the idea. It’s this approach that gives Crushed Beaks their effortless sound. Looking to maintain a natural feel to the song is the key ingredient to the bands hyper, freaked out approach to pop music and at the end of the day it was this that convinced Too Pure that the world needed to hear Crushed Beaks.
