10" EP in screenprinted sleeve, with download code and fika (lapsang souchong and recipe for Julia’s Christmas cake), ltd to 300 copies. A 6 track EP from Darren Hayman (formerly of Hefner), recorded Christmas 2010 in Haworth, West Yorkshire.
Here's a few words from Darren about the EP.
"I've always dreamed of going away for Christmas. 'Going away' and 'Christmas', it sounds so illicit. Christmas is about family and the family smothers and chokes. Mine can become particularly hysterical at Christmas. Last year we did it. We drove to Haworth and it snowed. It didn't actually snow on Christmas day but it's still a white Christmas in my book.
It was a Christmas with my new family, my wife and my dog and not my old one. In a way it could be my first proper one. When I'm away from home I tend to write. We kept the TV off. I wrote four Christmas songs. I wrote the other two instrumentals in July."
Darren has released 6 albums solo and with his backing band, The Secondary Modern. He can also be found in the animals in space collaborative art/music project Vostok 5, as part of Rotifer, and has released albums as The French, a bluegrass album as Hayman Watkins Trout & Lee.
“London's laureate of sexual dysfunction, discomfort, and dog-eared under-achievement... the match of Ray Davies, or any of the quintessentially English masters.” (The Guardian)
