Sounds & Moving Pictures by Yellow 6

Last week saw two Yellow 6 releases drop and here's another one. It's like buses, innit? Despite the fact over the last 13 years or so he's released over 110 releases this is the first one to come with a DVD. Anyway seeing as though I've heard so many albums by him I thought I'd watch a thing seeing as I'm at home doing this! The DVD has a number of different videos done by various folks, a slideshow of some pics from a European tour and a live performance from the Antwerp Live Looping festival. The videos are all very in keeping with the style of mellow floaty post rock that Yellow 6 offers...blurry images of things, landscapes, liquidy drops and that kinda thing. It's all very lovely. The live footage is well worth a watch just to see how he does his thing and you get to admire his vast array of guitar pedals. And there's a CD as well which I've not even played. How fancy am I just whacking a DVD on and ignoring a CD. Welcome to the future folks.

Yellow6, the solo project of British guitarist Jon Attwood, has been releasing music, variously categorised as drone, post-rock, space-rock, minimalist, shoegaze and ambient since 1998.  With a body of work totalling over 110 individual releases, Sounds and Moving Pictures is the first CD/DVD release from this prolific artist. In spring 2011, Yellow6 set off for his third trip in recent years to play shows in mainland Europe, this time visiting cities, towns and villages in France, Belgium and Holland.  The trip was bookended by two special shows:  The Tonefloat tf100 Festival (where Jon performed alongside Dirk Serries in the debut live performance of Sleep of Reason) and the Antwerp Live Looping Festival. The latter show was recorded as both an audio recording from the audience, and a two camera video.
