Ninja Tune have bagged another modern electronic lynchpin, this time New Yorker Drew Lustman (an appropriate name for a man who adorned the sleeve of his debut album with b'n'w photos of sultry cuties in various states of undress!). His stuff always impresses me with its rich propulsive melodies and hybrid warmth. 'Atlantis' the title track is a nicely paced burst of cerebral joy, 'Can't Stop The Prophet' begins with sensuous a R'n'B shuffle that morphs into a jazzy low-end groove with evocative tendrils of stoned rave synth before exploding into a mellow D'n'B roller...then back to that seductive easy going electrofunk. 'My Light My love' has a tumbling, snaky jazz feel with some very odd waves and crashes of gleeful digital intrusion. It works a treat and sounds like no-one else particularly. 'The Sale Ends' finishes me off (ooh-err) with a slinky two-step shuffle and some more ace disembodied R'n'B/funk edits. An incredibly strong EP (probably one of his finest outings yet) loaded with all those brilliant hallmark touches and sparkling production techniques he has become renowned for.
