Dario Rojo-Guerra aka fLako (small f big L) is one of Europe’s best emerging beats producers at the moment. First appearing a couple of years ago on Up My Alley’s ‘Beatnicks Vol.2’ with the banging ‘Inside’, it was not until his outstanding remix for Robot Koch’s Vortex Cookies project in late 2008 that heads really began to turn, and his take on the track has since been a set-staple for players like Gaslamp Killer, Hudson Mohawke and Jay “Beat Dimensions” Scarlett. fLako has also contributed tracks and mixes to labels such as Brownswood, Eglo, Error Broadcast, Tokyo Dawn, BBE, and Ghostly International. Late 2010’s ‘Mini Tollbooth’ EP was his debut solo release, followed by an album ‘The Mesektet’ in spring 2011, which both delivered equal expertise in intricate rhythmic invention and sliding soulfulness, always surprising, energetic, versatile, and a million miles away from laptop-fixated sound manipulation. Of ‘Carving Away The Clay’, the artist himself comments : “it impresses upon the idea of an ongoing process in which raw material is stripped off of anything superfluous or impeding until the essential parts of ourselves are exposed. It is a never ending process of striving for perfection in all areas of life.”
