Everything's 'piscine' these days - 'piscine' this 'piscine' that. Anyway here's another 'piscine' from this former Fence collective outfit and the inaugural signing to Domino France. As you might expect its very French. It opens with chirpy gallic tack piano, its entirely sung in French yet its hugely tuneful and reminiscent of some of the Super Furry Animals more whimsical side projects. On the flip you get a more countrified downbeat offering musically sounding not unlike 'Harvest/Harvest Moon' era Neil Young with its air of rural melancholy. A pleasant diversion yet perhaps because of the language barrier I'm finding it difficult to fully connect. Ticks all the boxes though.
• Welcome to Francois & The Atlas Mountains - the first signing to Domino France.
• ‘Piscine’ is a dance contagion - a deep sense of lightness and sincerity sets in as voices, keyboards and African percussion blend into instant pop.
• Already rising stars in their native France, things look set to kick off over here too.
