Flapjacks are getting too healthy these days, even the choc chips in this one tasted organic & uh....natural!! Whatever, pray tell, happened to the mountain of cheap treacle & nasty sugar injected into every crevice? Oh, where was I? Am I REALLY listening to Shackleton here?? What is going ON??? Beware this starts off really uber-fast like a gremlin DJ is spinning a spot of the original at Magic-Roundabout-on-crack speed making it all go a bit hyper-Terry Riley, it's a curious ruse that doesn't quite prepare you for what comes next. Which is initially deep clattering tribalism's & haunting druid-like synth lines. This is totally shit-hot like everything Sam S produces but doesn't particularly go down the usual snaky path of skittering snares & eerie morphing bass - it's a lot more carnival-esque & almost soundtrack-y is this remix with the usual vibrant intensity and highly atmospheric production you'd expect. I couldn't possibly work out what "genre" this is supposed to be if you paid me but I reckon it would (weirdly) fit easier into a set with some of Orbital's more banging hands-aloft moments than an average dubstep set if you ask me. That's not particularly a comparison, just a casual guide. The Becker mix on the other side retains a loose, fluid jazz-flecked post-rock profile. It sounds amazing but would probably only work for a DJ as a mood setter in a downtempo set.....totally worth it for the remarkable Shackleton excursion here!!!!
