Farside Virtual by James Ferraro

Jimi Jimi Jimi!!! Always excited to hear the results of any new Farraro POP ART obsessed experiments. The fuzzy headed one has clearly gone waaay beyond the scrap-book concepts that characterised early tape/CD-R releases as well as his contributions to eastern psych-prov pioneers Skaters. 'Farside Virtual' shares very little in common with last years teenage glam-rock fantasy 'Night Dolls With hairspray' and it's muddied obsessions with 80's hair metal, leather clad mistresses, yuletide chimes and wild guitar theatrics. In fact, 'Farside Virtual' is something all together different, though it doe's stay true to the principles that have seen him tagged by the The Wire's James Keenan as the ringer-leader of the so-called 'Hypnagogic Pop' movement. That Keenan kid is like the new Everett True innit. Feel like I'd be spoiling the surprise if I actually reveal the content of this LP so I'll leave you with a few clues instead 1) Ferraro may have acquired an interest in concise hi-fidelity recordings. 2) MIDI and digital technology play a significant role  3) It's the audio equivalent of viewing a previously ignored but radically awesome piece of art you might find hanging in the foyer of a hi-tech electronics company circa summer 1991. 4) If Mark Mothersbaugh ever gets to the point that he can't score Wes Anderson's movies anymore then, on the strength of 'Farside Virtual', Ferraro is his only worthy successor. Makes me wanna quit work immediately and make music all day every day.

“Two years ago, David Keenan of The Wire coined the name "hypnagogic pop" for a strain of lo-fi, 1980s-centric psychedelia, or "pop music refracted through the memory of a memory." Though Ariel Pink's AM-radio concoctions made him a godfather, Keenan placed James Ferraro-- previously known as part of the noise duo Skaters-- at the center of this ‘movement.’” - PITCHFORK Released on Heavyweight transparent vinyl
