Love Among The Mannequins - Radial Images (CD)

Literary and dark, Radial Images is the debut album from Love Among The Mannequins.  Formed by former Meet Me in St. Louis singer Toby Hayes (aka Shoes and Socks Off) and members of Elle Milano and O You Broken Eyes. The logic ran thus: if you're going to have the bare-faced audacity to start yet ANOTHER band with drums and electric guitars, you'd at least better make sure you're doing something interesting and they have indeed done that. The Mannequins convey unease through songs which segue and lurch, twist and thrash, to create 13 tracks and 40 minutes of guitar-led chaos boasting tales of geneticists, dystophia and general ruination mixed up with splashes of early Pavement, Autolux, Drive Like Jehu and Madonna era ‘Trail of the Dead. For its duration, Radial Images ensnares the listener with complex structure and cryptic lyrics.  Central to the enigma is Nikolai Fydorovich Fyodorov and his theories on Transhumanism. In Radial Images, Love Among The Mannequins warn against the rise of a bland and soulless society and pitch themselves as the counter-movement - an office they hold with distinction. Love Among The Mannequins will be touring UK in November with Tangled Hair.
