Deptford Goth - Youth II

WTF? I thought I'd never be forced to utter such trite urban banalities but for a band with such a Mighty Boosh name, they sure take themselves seriously. This is real coffee table electronic pop with strong R'n'B and soul tendencies but it really is beautifully produced and quite intimate sounding. They delve into stuttering/stumbling beat territory on the opener which irks as I think it spoils the wistful, gliding nature of the song. The vocodered vocal on the subsequent tune recalls Mr. Lidell and Mr. Blake and their ilk but the main wash of moody synth and the glitchy IDM beats carry a twinkling, playful gem of a song. It all reminds me of Schneider TM a bit, I'm quite taken with this one. Next up is a subtle dubstep-like midrange married to a brooding drum break and a stately kosmische synth line. Then it all goes a bit Ibiza chill-out. I'm confused as fuck! The concluding number is another schizoid mood piece with a glazed, furry post-ecstacy glow melody line that sounds unhappily lost in the sleepy murk of a spangled lovers tune. It all fits together weirdly and is nothing if not interesting. I'm not sure I like it but I don't want to turn it off either. That probably means it's quite good. Not particularly to my taste but it may well easily shit some of your legs off.
