The Lovely Eggs - Panic Plants

Panic Plants by The Lovely Eggs

3...according to our on Fri 28 Oct, 2011.

You've probably come across this twee duo by now. They're a boy and girl playing enthusiastic and shambolic lo-fi indie pop with its tongue planted firmly in its cheek. This 7” has the song 'Panic Plants' on the A side - a charming ode to “planting the seeds in the brain that grow into panic plants”. It's enthusiastic and noisily delivered and simple. You'll either find it charming or irritating, I can't say. On the other side there's three very short songs. These you also might find annoying but I can't make any promises. The first one is noisy. The second one is quiet. The third one is even quieter. It's like the EP is getting more subdued (and slightly less annoying) as it goes along.

“Panic Plants” is the third single to be taken from the Lancaster-based duo’s critically acclaimed second album, “Cob Dominos” and is yet another work of genius from one of the most genuinely exciting, innovative, original and compelling bands around today! “Panic Plants”, which features backing vocals from a chorus of numerous Lancaster luminaries, is a vibrant, effervescent tale of living with OCD, as told by The Lovely Eggs in their own inimitable way! It is backed with three fantastic, exclusive new B-sides, “She’s Got The Wine”, “Creepin’” and “Furness Mountain”. The Lovely Eggs’ recent single “Don't Look At Me (I Don't Like It)”, has been touted as an early contender for single of the year, with its video (featuring John Shuttleworth as the man with the sausage roll thumb) fast becoming an internet hit. “This song deserves to be yelled from every rooftop in every street in Britain” wrote legendary music critic Everett True, and if the reaction to their recent tours are anything to go by, people might well be heading out of their skylights sooner than you think. The band's dare-to-be different approach to music has seen them record sessions for Radio One, 6 Music and XFM, as well as being played by DJs Huw Stephens, Steve Lamacq, Bethan Elfyn, Marc Riley, Rob Da Bank, Tom Robinson, Gideon Coe, John Kennedy, Chris Hawkins, Jon Hillcock and Tom Ravenscroft. With releases in the UK, Europe, USA and Japan, The Lovely Eggs have been featured in Artrocker Magazine and The Guardian, as well as Maximum Rock and Roll. Their debut album “If You Were Fruit” ranked in the top 40 records of the year by Artrocker Magazine and was nominated for XFM's 'Debut Album of the Year'. The band have played hundreds of gigs around the UK, USA and Europe supporting the likes of Half Japanese, Shonen Knife, The Slits, The Television Personalities and Art Brut as well as a two month tour of America and a string of dates at SXSW in Austin, Texas (where they also recorded with legendary musician and hero Jad Fair). They have become well known for their live performances and have played everywhere from Amsterdam squats and Los Angeles scrap yards to steam trains in Ripley and charity shops in Leeds. The second single from their second album *Cob Dominos*, “Fuck It”, was released on limited edition 7" in May; DJs could not play it and it was released on a Bank Holiday when all the shops were shut.
