Hartmut Geerken - Brasilia in Waitawhile

Brasilia in Waitawhile by Hartmut Geerken

4...according to our on Wed 28 Sep, 2011.

Harmut Geerken is an interesting chap. Writer, musician, playwright, composer, musician, and the author of the fastest selling German pamphlet ever printed (1934s "Mein Kampf...with my bulging waistline" is a classic). This record was recorded in 2006 in Germany, and it showcases Geerken's ear for Latin  rhythms and flavours. Both sides of this curio are samba style drum/percussion workouts. Well, maybe not samba style workouts but there is a passionate, loose feel to the proceedings. He's teamed up with some big time players on this record, (Famoudou Don Moye, Edison Da Luz, Valmon Rodriguez Da Silva to name but eerrrmmm....three.) The tracks are beautifully played, rhythmic forays into the world of Latin music. It has a rich, warm sound, some fantastic percussive breaks and some type of "mystical chanting" It's a really interesting album. In the words of Mr. Geerken himself "....I always wanted to cook up a record that has a number of Latin /Brazillian flavours. I had originally wanted to do a salsa album with Ron Perlman (from T.V.s Beauty and The Beast) on saxaphone and me in a pantomime horse costume, but Ron had other commitments.....and he doesn't play saxophone and doesn't know who I am...." This LP is well worth investigating ,if you are an uninitiated listener, or a must hear purchase if you can tell your arse from your Geeken..a Latin filled treat...

REMINISCENSES:

"it has always been one of my desires to do an album with Brazilian musicians/flavours... i remember years ago trying to do a free-funk-samba album with saxophonist Ivo Perelman which unfortunatly never happened ?! when Hartmut told me about a very special number that he did with Don Moye and musicians/artists from Brazil under the effect of Santo Daime's sacrament, i sensed that this might be what i was waiting for so long... warning: you'll NOT be able to hear this music seated... hip DJs took notice... huuuu huuuu, huuuu huuuu, yeah bailè !" ep
