Son Of The Black Peace by Dean McPhee

5...according to our on Wed 21 Mar, 2012.

We've been waiting on this one for ages, as have many of you who pre-ordered it, because ol' Dean's a bit of a stickler for detail and wouldn't put up with anything but the finest pressing of his new LP for you, the fans. A very fine pressing this is, too, with no crackles or blemishes interrupting the silence and space in which McPhee's open tuned electric fingerpicking explorations can properly bloom. These are meditative, melodic passages of beautiful soft acoustic tones, never too busy or aggressive, with a beautiful gentle, deceptively technical approach to the instrument, allowing it to really chime and resonate with apparent ease. He has this lovely thing where he does these little runs of pinched chords leading to sonorous twinkles that's really effective. This is fingerpicking rooted in the Fahey tradition but subtly updated for effected electric guitar with a measured soundtracky minimal edge to it and mystically simple melodic hooks that hang in the air like soap bubbles. If you enjoyed that recent Suborno LP I'd imagine this'll be right up your street.

Young Mr McPhee releases his first full length album consisting of four new tracks of his singular signature style of introspective, drifting,  instrumentals, masterly played eclectic electric gtr & efx meanderings. quiet time music; summer fields and winter fire tending.
future dub folk from an olde english tradition that no one can quite put their finger on. bfp re-released his initial “Brown Bear” EP on CD in spring of 2010 to a growing press awareness of this young man’s talents with Boomcat, Brainwashed & Foxy Digitalis giving him the big ears kudos and mojo & Tom Ravenscroft firmly planting the McPhee flag as a talent to watch out for. A steady rivulet of live dates are planned with sympathetic souls old ( Michael Chapman’s Ecstatic Peace tripping ) & new( Richard Skelton psychogeoraphical seances with place ). Dean is happy to come play in the corner of your record shop for a price of a nice cup of tea and some decent cake and the use of one working plug socket - just give your friendly Cargo-man a call to arrange.
